Yacht Delivery and Tide-Aware Weather Routing

Strategic Weather and Routing Assistance for Tidal and Coastal Waters

⛵ Passage Crew Files

I provide structured meteorological support and routing guidance for selected yacht deliveries, with particular focus on tidal and current-influenced waters such as the Bay of Biscay, the English Channel and the North Sea.

In these regions, distance alone does not define safety. Wind direction relative to tidal phase, exposure duration and the timing of critical passages often have a greater impact than pure track optimisation.

As my professional schedule does not always allow me to join an entire passage, this support is usually provided from shore. The key value lies in offering a calm, independent and analytical outside perspective that supports the skipper and crew in making stable, well-timed decisions while underway.

For more demanding sections of a passage, I am also available to join on board where feasible.

YDRS – Yacht Decision & Routing Support

My routing assistance follows a structured analytical framework (YDRS) developed specifically for complex coastal and tidal waters.

The objective is not to maximise speed, but to stabilise decision-making under real operating conditions. The focus lies on identifying robust timing windows rather than simply optimising distance.

Scope of Support

Each passage is structured individually and typically includes:

All recommendations are provided as guidance. Responsibility for navigation and vessel operation remains entirely with the skipper and crew on board.

Working Method

My analysis integrates multiple forecast models, marine bulletins and observational data. These are evaluated in relation to tidal development and expected current behaviour along the route.

The aim is clarity and structure – without dramatization and without unnecessary complexity. Crews receive concise, directly applicable assessments designed to reduce cognitive load during demanding passages.

About Me

Over the years, I have sailed and supported yacht deliveries and regattas and have been responsible for structured passage planning in demanding waters.

My professional background in aviation involves structured risk assessment, weather analysis and decision-making under dynamic conditions. I apply this methodology to maritime routing in order to provide crews with a reliable and analytically grounded external perspective while underway.
